Felipe Pelaez × Substanz — Orange Fiber® Unity Edition

Substanz is proud to collaborate with Colombian-born fashion content creator Felipe Pelaez, based in Cologne, Germany, on the limited-edition Unity scarf made with Orange Fiber®.

Known for his bold and expressive approach to fashion, Felipe Pelaez uses style as a way to question established conventions and encourage greater freedom of self-expression. His international upbringing, including years spent in London, has shaped a distinctive perspective that brings together fashion history, contemporary culture and personal expression.

With more than 12 years of experience in styling and content creation, including six years as a full-time creator, Felipe has built a global community around his approach to fashion. In 2023, he presented his TEDx talk “How the History of Men's Fashion Inspires Us Today” in Innsbruck, exploring the evolution of menswear and its continuing influence on society.

His work has also been recognised internationally, including a feature in Vogue Portugal in 2024 and the Social Style Hero award at the New Faces Award Style.

Unity Edition

The Unity scarf was created around a simple but powerful idea: respect, compassion and connection across differences.

The design depicts hands reaching towards and holding one another, symbolising trust, empathy and allyship across borders and communities. Felipe’s earthy colour palette gives the composition a warm, organic character, while the diversity of colours, textures and gestures reflects his belief that difference can be a source of strength and creativity.

“Unity is a reminder that our diversity is our greatest strength. Just like in nature, it’s the variety — the colours, textures, and contrasts — that make the whole ecosystem not only strong, but breathtaking.”

The Collaboration

Felipe worked closely with Substanz illustrator Maria Sokolova to translate his vision into a distinctive textile artwork. The result brings together Felipe’s personal aesthetic and storytelling with Substanz’s expertise in textile design and material selection.

The Unity Edition is available exclusively as 67 × 67 cm carré scarves, with only 70 pieces produced. The design will never be reprinted, making each piece part of a strictly limited edition.

Orange Fiber®

The designs are printed on Orange Fiber®, an innovative Italian textile made from cellulose extracted from citrus juice by-products. Through a patented process, the citrus by-products are transformed into a spinnable cellulose fibre, which is then made into a soft, lightweight textile for fashion and design.

The resulting fabric combines a refined, silky feel with the distinctive story of turning an industrial food by-product into a new textile resource. Orange Fiber® is particularly well suited to luxury fashion and creative applications, making it a natural medium for translating paintings & prints into wearable art.

Craftsmanship & Edition

The scarves are printed and handcrafted in Italy, then presented in bespoke gift boxes designed by Berlin-based studio Maren Thomsen.

Each piece is accompanied by a hand-numbered and handwritten certificate of authenticity, marking its individual place within the edition. Worldwide delivery is included.

The result is more than an accessory: Unity is a piece of wearable art connecting personal expression, fashion history, illustration and material innovation.

The Unity Edition brings together fashion, textile design and biomaterials in a limited-edition product created with an emphasis on craftsmanship and material integrity. Printed on Orange Fiber®, the project demonstrates how sustainable materials and bio-based textiles can become part of contemporary environmental fashion, while offering a collectible alternative to conventional fashion accessories.
