Substanz in Shanghai

Substanz has a long-standing and productive relationship with the material R&D company PEELSPHERE®.

AlgaeSkin was one of the first new-generation materials we onboarded in 2023. Since, we’ve created a number of exhibition pieces for PEELSPHERE® that are now part of the company’s private collection and used to showcase this beautiful material.

Two Substanz designs were featured at PEELSPHERE®’s stand during Shanghai Design Week 2025.

The featured pieces — Martian 1.0 and Babygirl — were produced using AlgaeSkin, demonstrating its potential in contemporary accessory design.

PEELSPHERE® is a material innovation company founded by a team of talented designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs passionate about the sustainability and future of our planet. Supported by Kering Group, the company developed AlgaeSkin, a biodegradable, petroleum plastic-free bio-polymer derived from algae. With its natural texture and material efficiency, AlgaeSkin is part of a growing category of circular, low-impact alternatives to conventional synthetics.
