Substanz for Peel Sphere — Orchid Bucket Bag

Our collaboration with the German–Chinese material innovation company Peel Sphere began in 2023.

In 2026, Peel Sphere commissioned Substanz to design and produce a series of five bespoke bags: three created as exclusive Chinese New Year gifts for VIP clients, and two conceived as distinctive exhibition pieces for showrooms and international trade presentations.

Inspired by a long-standing fascination with orchids, the Orchid Bucket Bag is the final design in the series. It represents one of the most technically advanced constructions Substanz has developed for Peel Sphere to date.

The medium-sized bucket silhouette is constructed entirely from next-generation materials, including its structural elements, exploring how innovative materials can be pushed beyond conventional applications to create complex forms without compromising functionality or aesthetics.

The Orchid Bag made its first appearance at ChangeNOW 2026 at the Grand Palais in Paris, before becoming part of Peel Sphere’s showroom and exhibition presentation.

The project brings together a carefully curated palette of innovative materials, selected to balance structural performance, flexibility, colour and visual refinement.

  • Trims and additional components sourced through the Substanz network

The Orchid Bucket Bag demonstrates how material sourcing, selection and prototyping can transform next-generation biomaterials and sustainable materials into sophisticated fashion products. By combining innovative bio-based materials with carefully selected textiles, structural components and hardware, Substanz supports material innovators and fashion brands in moving from material development to real-world applications, creating new possibilities for bags, accessories and the wider circular economy.
