Substanz for peel sphere showroom

Our collaboration with the German–Chinese material innovation start-up Peel Sphere began in 2023.

In 2026, the founder of Peel Sphere approached Substanz with a commission to design and produce a series of five bespoke bags: three intended as exclusive Chinese New Year gifts for VIP clients, and two developed as distinctive exhibition pieces for presentation across international showrooms and trade fairs.

The SnakeSkin design was originally conceived and developed in 2025 within our studio as a material study exploring the structural and aesthetic capabilities of the next generation of AlgaeSkin. The project was designed as a fully glue-free construction, in which more than 250 individual components are meticulously hand-stitched without the use of any machine sewing. Each scale element is carefully hand-folded and precisely ironed to preserve its sharp, sculptural geometry and dynamic surface expression.

This piece reflects our ongoing commitment to material innovation and artisanal precision, bringing together a carefully curated palette of next-generation materials that combine technical performance with refined, elevated aesthetics.
