Substanz × Steinway & Sons — Orange Fiber® Limited Edition

Substanz collaborated with Steinway & Sons to create a limited series of bespoke scarves printed on Orange Fiber® for the brand’s Munich branch, combining textile innovation, distinctive design and the visual identity of one of the world’s most renowned piano makers.

The Collaboration

The designs were developed specifically for Steinway & Sons, featuring a hand drawn image of their bestselling model B grand piano, translating the brand’s visual identity into a versatile textile piece that could function both as a refined corporate gift and as part of the company’s professional appearance.

The three colourways offer distinct interpretations of the design while maintaining a coherent visual connection to the Steinway & Sons identity. The scarves can be worn in multiple ways, allowing the same piece to move seamlessly between corporate, client-facing and personal styling.

Orange Fiber®

Each scarf is printed on Orange Fiber®, an innovative Italian textile made from cellulose extracted from citrus juice by-products. Through a patented process, citrus by-products from the juice industry are transformed into a spinnable cellulose fibre and subsequently into a soft, lightweight textile for fashion and design.

The resulting fabric combines a refined, silky feel with the story of transforming an industrial food by-product into a new textile resource, offering a distinctive material basis for bespoke fashion and corporate applications.

Craftsmanship & Edition

Each scarf measures 67 × 67 cm and is printed and handcrafted in Italy.

The limited series was produced exclusively for Steinway & Sons and is not intended as a general retail collection. Selected pieces were presented to VIP clients, while the scarves were also incorporated into the uniforms of the Steinway & Sons Munich branch, creating a direct connection between the textile, the brand and its physical presence.

The Steinway & Sons collaboration demonstrates how bio-based textiles and sustainable materials can be translated into sophisticated corporate and luxury applications.
