Substanz X Confiture — Exploring Bio-Based Materials Through Prototyping

Substanz supported Confiture brand, a new bag and accessories label focused on plant-based leather alternatives, with the material selection, sourcing and prototyping of a small series of keychains and charms.

The project started with the brand’s renderings and focused on finding biomaterials and sustainable vegan leather alternatives that could translate their soft, fluid design language into physical products. This included exploring different material options, sourcing samples and producing prototypes to assess how each material performed in the final shapes.

The pieces were created using innovative materials including Nutico, Banofi and Oleatex, each offering a different approach to bio-based materials and leather alternatives.

The finished prototypes were showcased at IFM in Paris in March 2026, alongside other bags and accessories from the project.

The project is a good example of how Substanz supports brands beyond material sourcing — from material selection and prototyping through to production, helping translate new materials into commercially relevant fashion products.

Minimal high-polish stainless-steel hardware completes the designs.
