Substanz for revoltech
Substanz was one of the few product developers invited to collaborate with the German material innovation company Revoltech on a design showcasing their pioneering biomaterial MATTR™.
Revoltech quickly became one of our most valued R&D partners, sharing our curiosity for material innovation and our belief that new-generation biomaterials should not only be sustainable but also beautiful, tactile, and wearable. From the very first experiments, our partnership has been defined by creative exchange and a shared commitment to redefining what fashion materials can be.
MATTR™, Revoltech’s innovative algal polymer, stands out for its soft texture, natural warmth, and distinctive pearlescent shine — a true expression of how biological innovation can meet high-end craftsmanship.
MATTR™ is fully biodegradable, free of petroleum-based content, and will be commercially available by summer 2026. Working with it has allowed us to explore the practical potential of algae as a renewable resource and to challenge the perception that bio-based materials are fragile or futuristic.
Our prototype, Mother of Pearl, was presented at the Deutsches Museum within the Bio Living Lab exhibition curated by NIMA Studio — marking an important milestone in demonstrating how scientific research and fashion design can merge into tangible, elegant forms.
Through our ongoing collaboration with Revoltech, we continue to explore the boundaries between biotechnology and design, developing new ways to make innovative materials not only functional but also deeply desirable.
